Pugalug Pug Rescue is planning a fundraising event in Burlington this weekend to cover the cost of a recent operation on Figu, a 14-week-old pug dog.

Figu underwent eye surgery on both of his eyes at seven weeks of age due to ulcers. It is among many pugs that have been helped by Pugalug Pug Rescue.

Pugalug Spring Jubilee will take place at Scholars in Collars, a dog training facility in Burlington, from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday (April 13).

"When we get a puppy like Figu in, we rely on the generosity of the pug community to ensure he will have a healthy, happy life," said Larry St. Aubin, president and founder of Pugalug Pug Rescue.

The rescue group was asked by the original owners of Figu to pay for the $3,000 surgery and find him a new home.

Local businesses, such as Burlington's Bark and Fitz and Duds for Dogs, will be present with other vendors at the upcoming fundraiser.

Scholars in Collars is located at 1153 Pioneer Rd. For more information, call 905-333-5479.

Pugalug Pug Rescue is run by a group of volunteers with a mandate to rescue pugs in need of medical attention and place them with a new adoptive family.
